Does Increasing L2 cache memory will affect the life of my processor ?

what i mean is
I have a Intel core 2 duo processor running at 2.20Ghz (Not Over clocked)
i am using windows 7 and it said that i can increase the L2 cache size of my CPU which is 1 mb the default was 256KB and if i increase it i will get 3-5% increase of performance but what i am wanting to find out is that if i increase the size will it affect the life span?
