What should I set my sub frequency to if my speakers are at 100Hz?
I listen to mostly rock and don’t want the sub to thump over the actual music. The sub is a 10 inch and in a ported box.
Right now the LPF is set at 60 Hz which is where the people who installed it set it to, is this way too low? Should the HPF and the LPF match or be relatively close and if so what are the general ideal frequencies for each?
professo peabody the gain isn’t there to “set the volume for the sub” It is there to match the signal voltage from the head-unit. If it was for the volume it would be remotely mounted at the dash somewhere, not a little dial you need a screwdriver for. (thumbs-down)
Anyways what i usually it set both the HPF for the speakers and the LPF for the subwoofers to about 80Hz and go from there. It seems to be a good starting point and yeah, just listen to what works for you.

No 60Hz isn’t to low, speakers can play down to this frequency quite easily but as I said I usually start at 80Hz for both and go from there and as sparky said you might want to overlap them even. But they should be relatively close, if you set them to far apart the frequencies in between the settings won’t be heard as well as it rolls off. Or if you have them overlapping to much both the sub and your speakers will be playing a large range of the same frequencies.
