what does 1 processor and 2 cores in a my macbook core2duo mean?

okay now my mac book says in its system profiler ..no of processors 1

Conventionally, a processor is made of a single chip better called as core which controls & executes all inputs given by user. But in case of Core 2 duo processor, it is having 2 cores to control ur data. This means processor devids ur intructions and can work faster. For more detals pls refer any comp hardware book……..
