Processor Highest Frequency

Can I replace a Celeron with a Pentium?
I have a Compaq Presario. It has an Intel Celeron D processor currently running at 2.67 GHz. I would like to know if it is possible to replace a Celeron D with a Pentium 4 (2.88GHz) Processor without replacing the motherboard. I know that the P4 does not have a much higher frequency but I do know it is more reliable and is more powerful.
Thanks!
Most likely not.
To find out for sure, you need to find out the socket type for your motherboard, as well as the model number. If you don’t have socket LGA 775, a modern pentium will not physically fit. If you do have LGA 775, then you need to look up your motherboard online, or contact the manufacturer and ask them if it is compatible with pentiums.
You can download and run CPU-Z to determine what socket type your motherboard is:

It will be under “package”. CPU-Z can sometimes determine manufacturer and model number correctly for motherboards. It will be under “mainboard”.
