Personal Computers History

Can an employer see your web history if you are using your own computer?
just curious, say for instance its a personal computer (no work related applications installed) and I use their network, can they see what websites I visit or do they have to install a program to do that?
what if you use an encrypted proxy server web site?
it depends if it is a secure site for them —-best bet stay off your oc for personal use at work —i got caught using a restricted line when it was told it was ok and got told i was in the wrong area and not to use that connection again –almost cost me my job
