Dual Processor Dell Dimension 2400

I’ve got a Dell Dimension 2400 PC. What upgrades is it worth buying?

I’ve got a Dell Dimension 2400 PC. What upgrades is it worth buying without bursting my pocket.

I’ve got a funny feeling it’s not worth upgrading this one, but i’d rather ask for a little help.

I’m after an AMD Athlon Dual Processor PC with AMD values and so on, but i’ll wait and see.

Thanks.

Hello,

(ANS) It really depends upon a number of factors in my opinion, No.1 How old the actual hardware is and how up-grade-able the machine is, this entirely depends upon the actual make & model of the system board or motherbaord.

No.2 If your running windows 2000 or XP then my advise is that the best components to upgrade for the biggest performance improvement will undoubtedly be adding more physical memory.

**You need to know how much physical memory your present system has? also you need to find out what specific kind & speed of RAM the machine is using. So for example if the system uses DDR ram or SDRAM that’s going to be what you need to buy when upgrading.

**Several of the big memory makers have websites that can scan your system and tell you what memory upgrades are available & the price involve. For example:- Crucial Memory or Kingston Memory have sites that do this.

**Upgrading the CPU is a waste of time because the maximum speed of the overall system is governed by the motherboards local bus or front side bus. So if the FSB = 2.2Mhtz thats the fastest the system can go, so no point in buying a 3.0 Mhrtz CPU it would be a waste of money. You can only upgrade the CPU if you know the socket type & if the CPU is going to be faster than the present one.
