Benchmark Processor Intel Vs Amd

What processor is better; AMD atholon x2 6400 or Core2duo E6750?

Ive been looking around the internet and talking to people and I still dont know which is the better processor. For me the price does not matter, since they both are pretty much the same (in price), but I still would like to know which processor preforms better. The AMD war vs. the Intel war has really made the answer cloudy for me since the data across the board is different for many websites that show the benchmarks of each processor. Interestingly the AMD x2 6000 shows up preformance wise right behind theCore2duo E6750. But what about the 6400, I have trouble finding the preformance of the processor as compared to the Core2duo E6750. I just bought the Core2duo E6750, did I make the right decision or would it of been better to buy the AMD atholon x2 6400? note: I have only ordered the processor, havent recieved it yet.

First thing to remember, your motherboard can only use either an Intel Dual Core or an AMD Dual Core not both. Different processors require different CPU sockets. You have to use what ever brand processor you mother board can use. You also have to make sure the new processor you get is compatible with your mother board if upgrading from and older CPU. A computer that used something like a Pentium-III or Pentium-D can not use a Core2Duo because they are built different. The Intel Core2Duos use the LGA775 socket so make sure that is the socket you mother board has. To compare the two CPUs against each other, the 6400 has only 540MHz more processing speed(not very much) then the E6750 but Intels are more stable for over clocking and the E6750 can be over clocked to match the 6400 in speed rating. Where the E6750 wins though is it’s L2 Shared Cache (shared between the two cores)…the amount of shared cache is how much information a processor and handle at one time and it’s speed rating is how fast it handles each of those loads. The 6400 has a 2MB L2 cache and the E6750 has 4MB of L2 Cache, double what the 6400 has and this is typical between Intel and AMD CPU’s. Think of it like this, your E6750 is a four lane highway with a 55mph speed limit, but the 6400 is only a two lane highway with a 65mph speed limit…which one do you think can handle more traffic??? The 6400 can handle 2 cars at 65mph but the E6750 is moving 4 cars at 55mph. The other benefit the E6750 has over the 6400 is it is built using 65nm architecture compared to the 6400 using 90nm. The smaller the contacts used to build the CPU, the lower it’s operating temperature and power consumption. Example, 6400=125w E6750=65w
