Core Duo vs. highend g4 Mac @ 3D rendering?
I heard that the g4′s still render faster then the core duo’s is this true? Is the Core Duo or g4 the same/better/worse at 3D rendering, and can it really render in real time as you are creating?
My friends says:
“I think it’s still bs because macs be useing ATI graphic cards for years and they perform better in a mac than how they do in a pc.”
I know it’s more with the graphic card then the processor … but honestly, if all I need is decent 3D rendering will a g4 do it or should I shell out more cash for a Core Duo or g5 along with a kickbutt graphics card of course?
CPU has no effect on 3D rendering, that is entirely the domain of the graphics card. The same GPUs are available on all platforms, so you can’t say Mac or Windows is better for 3D rendering, they are both dead even.
Actually, CPU speed can control how fast information is sent to the GPU, but generally this will account for less than 0.01% of performance in 3D rendering.
