Are all POLARIZED style 3D glasses basically the same or are there different flavors for different movies?

Also, how many different 3D color combinations are there- green/magenta; red/cyan…?
Thanks Tony. Now just to be clear – are you saying the same type of circular polarized glasses can be used for all polarized type 3d movies today?

Actually the movie is not in polarized 3d. When they shoot a 3d movie they have a 3d camera that has 2 lenses spaced apart like your eyes and each lens records a 2d movie. Once they have 2 2d movies, one for the left eye only and one for the right eye only then that is how it is on the disk. Now it is up to the projection system to take those 2 2d movies and get them to only one eye only. How that is done depends on the brand of projector a theater has. So in a certain room in a theater it always uses the same glasses because they go with that projector. So a theater that uses shutter glasses my get the same disk as a theater that uses polarized glasses. Their systems just use different techniques to get them to your eyes.

There are different kinds of polarized light used for 3d. There is linear that was used in the past like the 1950′s craze and in the 1980′s. Now circular polarized light is used. Both have been around since the late 1930′s, in that past they just used linear because it was thought to look better than circular. Now it is my understanding only circular is used.

Colors used for anaglyph 3d are. red and cyan sometimes which really has no name. Trioscopic -green and magenta. Colorcode – amber and blue. Pulfrich which uses one clear lens and one dark lens. In this method the objects must be in constant motion or the 3d effect is lost.
