Second Life is really cool but you have to spend money if you want ur avatar to look really good. I made my avatar look OK with the freebie stuff, but I kept seeing really cool avatars everywhere and I wanted to look as good as they did. After a week of feeling really ugly I put my credit card info in and bought money. I was worried it was going to get expensive, but they have a money limit when you first start SL so you cant spend too much. I was lucky because there was a skin sale at one place and got a great skin half price and Last Call had a big clothes sale so I got lots of clothes really cheap. I think it cost me about $15 or $20 in real money to make my avatar look really good. I now change $5 or $10 each week or so into Linden Dollars, just to buy new clothes, shoes and hair and I love buying stuff. I always keep some money back in case of a sale, or for something really special.

You cant have a house for free in Second Life. There are free houses but you you have to buy land to put the house on. Its too expensive for me but I stay at a friends house in SL and I am learning how to make furniture and jewelry which I hope to sell. If I make enough money I might buy a small parcel of land for a house of my own but I have so much fun doing other things that I am not really bothered about having a house.
